A major lapse in food quality on the Vande Bharat Express has triggered strict action from authorities after a passenger reported finding worms in his meal during the journey.
The issue surfaced when Ritesh Kumar Singh, travelling on the Patna–Tatanagar route, noticed contamination in the curd served to him. He recorded a video highlighting the problem and informed railway officials onboard.
Railway staff quickly responded and inspected the food item at his seat, while other passengers gathered and expressed concern over hygiene standards. The video soon went viral, drawing widespread criticism.
Taking note of the matter, the Ministry of Railways imposed a ₹10 lakh fine on Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation and a ₹50 lakh penalty on the catering contractor, whose services were also terminated.
