Iran has announced limited access to the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, allowing countries such as India to continue commercial shipping despite ongoing tensions in the region.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi confirmed that only “friendly nations” — including China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan — have been granted permission to use the route. He emphasized that ships linked to countries opposing Iran would not be allowed to pass.
The development comes at a time when global energy markets are under pressure due to disruptions in the strait, a key channel for transporting oil and liquefied natural gas. Prices have surged amid fears of prolonged instability.
For India, which depends heavily on energy imports from West Asia, the decision provides some relief. However, concerns remain over the long-term impact if restrictions continue.
